A STEP BACK IN TIME

Built in1903

The P.M. Morris building was erected in 1903 by three local brothers and named in honor of their later father, Phileman Milton Morris, a local farmer, and merchant. It was one of the largest and most sophisticated commercial buildings in the central Concord business district. 

Ground Floor

Notable ground floor tenants include Bell and Harris Furniture Company, Cabarrus Savings Bank, Western Union Telegraph Company, Charles Stores Company from the 1930’s to 1970’s and JC Penney from 1928 to 1987.

Upper Floors

Upper floors served variety of uses through the years including the Hotel Normandy, professional offices (physicians, lawyers), two different private high schools (Campbells & Morris High Schools) and the Evan’s College of Commerce taking up the entire 3rd floor from 1948 to 1960.
